A labor of love

Our passionate winemaker

Meet Gio Martorana, a passionate winemaker and grape grower whose journey with grapes began in the sun-kissed vineyards of his family’s estate in the Dry Creek Valley. From a young age, Gio was making grapes into wine with his father Tony and his Uncle Johnny. Due Sorelle was their first label, launched circa 1986.

After graduating from the University of Northern Colorado, Gio returned to the Healdsburg vineyards that are his home. Always with a smile, he worked alongside Rick Hutchinson of Amphora Winery, gaining an understanding of different terroirs, grape varieties, and winemaking techniques, shaping him into a versatile and innovative winemaker.

Gio’s winemaking philosophy is rooted in respect for nature and tradition, combined with a relentless pursuit of excellence and innovation. He believes that great wine is born in the vineyard, and meticulously tends to his vines, practicing organic viticulture to ensure the health of the land for generations to come.

Whether crafting a crisp Sauvignon Blanc, robust Zinfandel, or powerful Petite Sirah, Gio’s wines reflect his unwavering commitment to quality and authenticity. Each bottle tells a story of terroir, craftsmanship, and passion, inviting wine lovers to experience the essence of the vineyards from which the wine originated.

Today, Gio proudly oversees his own boutique winery and vineyards, where he continues to push the boundaries of winemaking while honoring his family’s grape-growing heritage. With each vintage, he strives to create wines that not only delight the palate but also capture the essence of the land and the spirit of those who tend it.

The Martorana story begins where so many of the best wine stories do — in Italy, several generations ago.
